Steven Gerrard has confirmed Bongani Zungu’s injury is a touch more serious than feared, and that the ‘hope’ is to have him back in, yes, ‘7 to 10 days’.

The big South African has been unable to get into his rhythm yet at Ibrox, and despite a promising looking cameo v Hamilton, the on-loan Amiens midfielder subsequently got injured on international duty with a reported knee issue.

As such, the manager has confirmed he’ll miss Benfica and Falkirk, and is a big doubt for the Liege clash next week.

It’s a pity, we can see real quality there, and coupled with the Ryan Jack blow, Rangers’ options in midfield have been slightly reduced, with Steven Davis (minor injury issues), Scott Arfield and Glen Kamara still available, thankfully.

It’s a pain for Zungu – he just wants to play football, but we’re likely to have to wait till next month before he starts to become a regular.

We just hope he’s not a sicknote.
