Rangers fans have been denied an imminent parading and debut from new signing Bongani Zungu after it was confirmed his quarantine process will take him into the new month.

The 27-year old midfielder was confirmed a week or so ago, and it had been hopeful that he could make a shock debut on Saturday depending on cv restrictions, but the big South African is now in isolation and won’t be seen until November.

Naturally, it’s not that huge an issue – Rangers are absolutely blessed with talent and fit players right now, with the squad in very good condition and the only doubt being Kemar Roofe up front.

But in Zungu’s position Rangers still have three capable men and at least two of them are in especially impressive form.

When the on-loan Amiens man does get the go-ahead to join the pack, he will compete for a position in the double pivot – Rangers management have confirmed he has not signed for anything other than a starting jersey, although his form will have to merit it, but he’s likely to be the most prominent partner for Glen Kamara.

But it must be remembered Rangers will have four alpha midfielders vying for the two slots – Kamara and Zungu probably will be the most regular, and the main first choices, but Steven Davis and Ryan Jack will have plenty of minutes as well given just how heavy the season is likely to be until the end of the EL group stage at the very least.

So, options, depth, and quality.

But a little while before Zungu is part of that.
