Rangers make move for key assist king
Coming to Ibrox?

Rangers have been linked with a move for Newcastle flop but Sheffield Wednesday ‘star’ Jacob Murphy, 25.

In the absence of Steven Gerrard having many right wingers to call upon (just Kemar Roofe at present and he’s not fit) the club have moved on from Andrea Skov Olsen and are reportedly making a play for Newcastle’s on-loan Owls winger, and in fairness to him, his stats in the Championship make for solid reading.

9 goals, 6 assists in 39 appearances, on top of a similarly strong season for Norwich in the same division, 8 goals, 8 assists in in 37.

In short, he’s proven himself a quality player at Championship level, and that he’s failed at Newcastle probably doesn’t matter – he’s not a Premier League player, at least not yet, but Rangers are certainly not against signing a player proven in the Championship.

There are some claims it’s a loan, which we would be very disappointed in. The loan market has not done us particularly well over the years, and we’d rather sign outright – his market value is around £3.5M but Rangers have spent a few quid now in this window (£13M or so) and we’re not sure if there’s anything further in the budget.

So a loan might have to be the solution, save for selling a player.

But he’s not a bad player, in fact a decent one – just not one cut out for the PL.
