Rangers are back in action today as Steven Gerrard takes his men to Hamilton for another must-win match at 17:30.
Celtic of course play tomorrow at Parkhead desperate to claw points back and get over their ‘little blip’ midweek, so it is critical Rangers turn the screw today at Brian Rice’s patch and get another three points.
Gerrard has four massive dilemmas on his plate:
Jon McLaughlin or Allan McGregor.
Leon Balogun or Filip Helander.
Brandon Barker or Kemar Roofe.
Alfredo Morelos or Cedric Itten.
Whoever he chooses, Rangers top the table in every regard, and that must continue.
For what it’s worth, we’d go with:
McLaughlin in goal (can’t change it if he’s playing well)
Back four has to remain as it is too, even though we really really like Balogun. Helander is playing great, although of course the ideal solution is Helander and Balogun, but hey ho.
So, Tavernier, Goldson, Helander, Barisic.
Midfield will be either Jack and Kamara or Davis. Davis had a tidy match v Killie but he’s not getting any younger and Stevie might not want to risk him on Hamilton’s dodgy plastic.
So we’ll say Jack and Kamara here.
This is where stuff gets interesting. Kent will start, obviously. But the other three? No Aribo, and Hagi is horrendous on plastic, and isn’t in sparkling form in general either. So Arfield is likely to take point here on this tough surface, and we’d imagine the in-form Brandon Barker will get the nod wide right.
So, Kent, Arfield and Barker.
Up front though, is it Itten or Morelos. Itten was looking a bit brighter in the last one, with a strong passing level and a very healthy 40 touches for someone not quite gelled yet with his team-mates. He worked hard. But Morelos is a force of nature if he’s in the zone, and he’ll steam roller Hamilton.
It’s just whether or not he is…
But our team for this one:
McLaughlin; Tavernier, Goldson, Helander, Barisic; Kamara, Jack; Kent, Arfield, Barker; Itten
The likes of Roofe, Hagi and Morelos will be benched to change this one if need be.
But hey, we might be wildly wrong!
