Shock u-turn after Rangers move for £4M man

Rangers fans have been given a shock u-turn after the club appeared to reverse a decision over Amiens defensive/central midfielder Bongani Zungu.

Following the French side’s reveal of their price for the South African international, of around €5M, Rangers appeared to be put off his services and turned attentions instead to other targets, some of whom we reported recently.

However, reports have updated to suggest the price tag has now been met and Rangers are closing in on the former Vitoria Guimaraes man with just terms left to agree.

This is a curious turnaround to say the least, and appears to suggest Rangers’ tactic of trying for other targets may have partially worked, albeit not enough to get the price down.

It appears Rangers may have leaked out interest in Ljubicic and Malinov to provoke Amiens and Zungu into action, although both alternatives are specifically DMs and Zungu is mostly CM, so interest in the other two may still ensue despite the stepping up of these negotiations.

As for Zungu, an experienced Ligue 1 and Nos stalwart, his CV is pretty impressive although he’s never played in any European competition before, which would be a major carrot for him.

His price is reported at £3.8M, and with 24 caps for his nation at 27, he’s a solid player, but we’re not 100% sure he’s a tonne better than what we have in his particular position.

But we shall see.
