“Right now he’s not there” – Rangers players rated v Hibs

Rangers secured a mammoth 3 points in the most important win we’ve had in a long time. Ibrox Noise gives you our ratings on a very big night in Govan:

McGregor:

The goal was an issue of contention – Whittaker’s eyes were clearly on the ball, and McGregor made a bit of a hash of it. It seemed to rattle him. He’s been better than this. 6

Tavernier:

100% anonymous first half (and no surprise most of Hibs’ threat came down his side) but his corner led to Edmundson’s equaliser and he grew a bit after this. Crossing was pretty poor but he was clearly off the pace. 6

Goldson:

Assisted the winning goal and was mostly assured otherwise, but ‘partnership’ with Ed looked in its infancy. 7

Edmundson:

Scored a big goal, with a surprisingly deft finish, and has done his chances little harm, but his lack of understanding with Goldson (neither player’s fault) made Rangers vulnerable, along with Tavernier’s ‘flatness’. 7

Barisic:

A little better in this one – got in one or two good crosses, and hopefully will grow from here. 7

Davis:

A little off the pace in going forward. One reader put it best; he seems to want to pass back the way a lot these days, and he’s slowing the game down. He is. We need Davo back where he was last year because right now he’s really missing Jack. 5

Arfield:

Worked hard off the ball to make space and link up, as he always does. Just a solid Arfield performance. Nice to also see him personally coaching and helping Hagi. 7

Hagi:

Quality was clear, but the team doesn’t understand him yet. Will take time, but it’s evident what a talent Rangers have here. 8

Aribo:

Lost the ball time and time again, purely being dispossessed. He wasn’t alone in this. But he’s just way off the pace. 5

Kent:

Managed one penetrating run, but for whatever reason, deep into February, we’re starting to wonder if we paid too much for Kent, despite his 6 goals. Just isn’t doing it anywhere near enough. Was also guilty of being robbed of the ball way too much. 6

Morelos:

More energetic than he was v Aberdeen but the off-field garbage has clearly distracted him and he’s not in the zone right now. 6

Manager:

Steven Gerrard made some changes and up till Edmundson’s goal they didn’t look vindicated. Indeed, till Hagi’s late winner the system still struggled too. It was slow, ponderous and barely better than recent displays – but the second half did see more energy and Rangers worked patently harder to win this one. It wasn’t good enough overall, but it got 3 points, and that’s what matters. Stevie will be hoping his side kicks on at last now. 7
