Absolute farce as McInnes says ‘no thanks’…

So Derek McInnes will NOT now become the new Rangers manager.

All those sources claiming it was a done deal look very silly indeed, arguably including ourselves, albeit we went with assumption rather than believing based on information we had received.

To say Rangers’ managerial hunt has now officially collapsed into absolute chaos is the understatement of the year and the board, having put all their eggs into the McInnes basket, now find themselves in a bit of a pickle.

Readers will know McInnes was not our first choice – we went on record to say that, but would support him anyway – but we can honestly say we are pleased he will not be the manager.

We are just horrified at how comically embarrassingly this shambles has played out. Rangers’ board rather ill-advisedly played this one through the media, and it has come back to bite them as their poster boy turned them down.

Now whoever we get is second choice, and is aware the board did not want them as the prime candidate.

For the record, we still want Tommy Wright, Neil McCann or Michael O’Neill, but right now Alex McLeish and Graeme Murty are the top two favourites.

And guess what – we do not have a bloody clue what is coming next.

  1. Some global search that… Guy up the road says no. Now what? Everyone else knows they're second choice.

And why in the hell would you want McAnn? He's bloody terrible. Stop this rangers man pish.

  2. I have really become disillusioned with whole farcical tenure from the board.it really is time they packed up and shipped out because it's totally evident now that they haven't a scooby what there doing.they are going to panic now and make any old appointment now. Well hell mend them now they have fannied about for weeks now. Bunch of retards running our club.

    • Hi Scott, am an expat watching things closely from abroad, so I'm outside the general hysteria, as it were..Had the board really wanted McI,the deal would've been done yonks ago.Now McI has retaliated in kind, and Iactually understand his position. As I said way back, I'd plump for Big Eck with Murty as assistant. No brainer, really..

  3. I don't know what the big deal is, we were told the board would take their time, they asked to speak to McInnes, after all his moaning about speculation he's finally decided to make the decision and put an end to it. Like yourselves at IN I didn't want him so I'm quite happy just now. I'm very happy for the board to continue to take their time and definitely not have a knee jerk reaction and appoint another dummy! In murty I continue to trust. WATP

    • Agree with you 100%. In every big business in world the board takes its time to recruit top man. People are interviewed privately. None of us know who have approached us or who we have approached. If MCInnes was not first choice so what? We should not be told. It’s confidential. We should not be driven by drivel in press. If McInnes is so in love with Aberdeen he should have said so six weeks ago and stopped speculation. The Aberdeen supporters will turn on him. He has been stupid. Thank God He is not going to be our manager.

  4. It shows he clearly lacks ambition by choosing the stay with the sheep so good we found out that the job was too big for hum.

FDB was always my number 1 anyway so I would go for him now or give Murty a suit and make him the manager!

    WATP

  5. Just give it to Murty but none of this "till the end of the season" nonsense where players go off the boil knowing Murty may be replaced soon. 2 year deal with option for 3rd.

Give him and Mark Allen two transfer windows to build his team.

  6. I have had to agree with I.N's views over the last few days about DMc.
He was not my first choice but was willing to give him a chance should he have been appointed.
But the media outlets and non Rangers punters are potraying US as the dusgusting, dispicable bad guys.WTF!!!!!!!! Enough is enough.
Has it been a pain staking 6 weeks- Yes (But not underhand).
Did Rangers make public who they wanted-No
Did Rangers make a proper and just approach to a Club – Yes
Did the club let their manager talk to us – No
Did the said manager make a decision based on the meeting he had with Rangers- No
As I've said RFC have done nothing wrong with this pursuit and in my opinion have got lucky VERY LUCKY.
Does our family really need someone at the helm who is not up for the challenge and refuses to be the boss of the GREATEST club in the world and his boyhood heroes?

    • EXACTLY! Agree with every point. Everybody needs to calm down, he wasn't the unanimous choice for the supporters. It's Derek McInnes NOT pep guardiola! He will be sacked before the end of the season! They finished 2nd…only way is down for them.

    • Well said Johnboy.
Agree Rangers said nothing about who we wanted but we are made out to be bad ones.
Agree Rangers asked to speak to McInnes, told NO, McInnes then after having 48 hours off and constant dialogue with Milne, McInnes decides NOT to talk with Rangers about the job🤔.
We have not got nunber 1 target, whats to say Rangers would have offered him the job after talking to him anyway?????

    • I am another fan who agrees 100% with your comments, likewise I would have supported McInnes had he been appointed and I am dismayed at the duration it took to actually attempt to offer him the job, but Rangers did not even get to that stage.
Kris Boyd was ridiculed on BBC radio tonight for making a very valid comment; if there has been no actual dialogue between Rangers and McInnes, then no discussion about salary, budget, backroom staff or potential player targets were put to him over the table. This has to be a personal decision by McInnes and whether we like it or not we have to respect it and I believe Kris Boyd was correct.

  7. I didn’t want him in first place. I am even more pleased now. What a dickhead. He will never be offered job now. And in 3 years Aberdeen will trail Rangers, Celtic , Hibs and Hearts. He turns down a job of a lifetime. He failed to win league with Rangers absent. Let’s move on. My choice is Neil McCann only because he has talked much sense in TV studios and was of course a true blue. If we stick with McMurty till season end and we finish 2nd I will be happy. Buy Walker and Mould in January and save money for summer buys.

    • A true blue? He was brought up a celtic supporter, his whole family are Catholic celtic supporters. McCann is a turncoat, how can you trust a turncoat

    • Your correct on both points the third your way off he scored and made plenty of goals against the unwashed, McCann if offered the position should be given a chance but I don't think our board would take that kind of a risk after the last genius left with his tail between his legs

    • We wouldn't be employing his family so bears no relevance.

I don't want McCann because he'd represent too big a gamble and I want a safe pair of hands for next two years – not because of any other aspect of the man's character (although his commitment to Rangers has never been in doubt since his debut)

  8. The three words I pick out from this article is comically, embarrassingly and shambles cause these are the only words that can be used to describe this whole disaster. For this to have taken 6wks and we're still at square one is disgraceful. There appears to have been an arrogant assumption that McInnes would have taken the job. Whoever comes in now will know they weren't the 1st choice. I can see Murty getting the job til the end of the season and look at the managers position in the summer. What a laughing stock we must be.

  9. Jackanory couldn’t make this up honestly… Well over to Dave King & Board also the DOF as you’ve made Rangers look second rate ffs! I’m glad he turned it down as I still think he wasn’t our best option..That said it makes whoever they pick know they never wanted them in the first place – total embarrassment if you ask me…

In Murty we trust is all I can say 🔴⚪️🔵

  10. brilliant news lets get right behind murty he will not let us down .king and co are bunch amatuers had a bad feeling about mcinnes .hes in the seltic, sheep .hibs .triangle .his loss .

  11. Excellent news, played off the park twice by “murts” what made the board think he was good enough for us?
Stop all this messing around & give the job to murty. Till the end of the season. And if he does well then give him another year on s rolling contract the way celtic did for years.
If not then they have to go for Michael O’Neill before scotland get him because if we lose out on him we will really struggle. Besided no compensation for any of them &we can spend it on players.

  12. Can’t help it really. I did say he could turn us down. Another ex player that’s showed his loyalty to us again. Hope we hammer his team again, bet he will get sacked when they finish 3rd behind us as well

  13. Blessing in disguise he like his team are just a bunch of bottlers. We are second in the league let's all calm down and see what happens

  14. How can you go for McCann and O'Neil ? McCann's only been a manager for 5 minutes and O'Neil's an international manager , where he only manages about 6 games a year , it's
senseless ! We've already taken chances on the last 3 managers , can't go down that road again , we need that safe pair of hands . For me it's McLeish with Murty as his assistant , to learn his trade proper . That's if Eck will take after being ignored twice . ( PS Can't stand the smirk on that fat fucker Peter Reids face on the Peter and Roughy selic show , close to panning ma fuckin telly in ) .

  15. result not getting McInnes. your other candidates are not worth a bolt.Keep Murty and let him plod on as we can't afford anyone, so let's stick with the man who's heart is in the job.

  16. First of all it is embarrassing for the board but in all honesty it will turn out to be the best outcome for our Great Club and personally speaking I'm absolutely delighted with the news that he's not coming and believe that he/his assistant would have taken us backwards rather than forward,it is also very obvious that we have major problems at board level and that has to be sorted asap…watp Helicopter 2005

  17. From the TITANIC to the MARIE CELESTE.
The utter incompetence and lack of embarrassement is incredulous.
And by all accounts will persist as no resignations have been tendered or demanded.
    Mr.King?, Mr.Robertson?. Anyone there? HAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Do you ever feel that you have been made to look the fool again King did say jan 2018 that the new manager would be in place and would get money he said he was still in a job for a team in scotland or uk now who is he?????????????????

  19. Everyone assuming he was first choice…how many out of contract managers have been contacted? The only thing that brought him to the media's attention is that he's under contract. Who is saying that he would have been successful when interviewed? Our beloved Rangers are a football team, but they are also a business. Do we assume that he was offered the job? Or Rangers just wanted to interview him? He could well have been one of three or four. I'm happy as I didn't want him from the start, I don't think he has what's needed to move Rangers forward, which has just been compounded by Murty out doing him tactically twice.

  20. Big Eck with Rae and Fergie as support coaching roles. Give them target of second place this season, credibility in the remaining of fixtures and a cup win. They secure that then give them 3 year deals

    • Second place, aye, but a cup win as well this season, before we even offer a 3 year contract? They'll be bitin' our hands off with an offer like that! 🤔

  21. Blue yonder and Mr angry spot on.
    There's better than him.
He could not get his players to put up a fight against
    Celtic at pitrodrie.
    To

  22. McLeish is yesterdays man, wont cut it in the modern game, McCann no better than Murty and O'Neill is out of the price range

  23. Why does everyone assume that McInnes turned the gers down. He might have failed the interview. I did not want him, neither did many supporters so don't start getting hysterical by blaming the board.

  24. In my opinion Ayetole McInnes has reneged on the deal. We have definitely dodged a bullet. He has not got nor never had the ability to take us beyond second place. With a Director of Football in place we should only need a first team coach. Step up Graeme Murty.

  25. EVERY ONE OF YOU GUYS HAVE VALID POINTS AND IT LOOKS LIKE ITS UPBEAT JUST LETS GET OVER THE RED FACE AND LET MURTY GET ON WITH IT HOWEVER LONG IT TAKE TILL WE GET THE RIGHT MAN WATP

  26. Yes it's embarrassing but more embarrassing if he got job as he has done nothing at Aberdeen second for the years we were out and nearest he got to Celtic was about 12 or 16 points thank god we never got him he played safe staying put that's real ambitious don't forget he done same with Sunderland a bottle merchant

  27. Exactly bud, never got offered job, interviewed fur it, then he realised he would be out eez depth managing such a great football club. Chill out aw eh haters, canny go back eh way with McLeish , Mcann naw, hows about a wee article a read yesterday Gary Monk

  28. Too many people are too quick to change their tune…super ally, super arsehole; Warburton is magic, Naw he's a dick; get McInnes in, we've dodged a bullet… We have created a poisoned chalice.

  29. Lets Go Get Tommy Wright!

Is He Cheaper than McInnes – Yes
Is He a Better Manager than McInnes – Yes

Does He Know The Spl – Yes
Does He Know Rangers – Yes
Does He Understand whats Expected – Yes

Could He Get the Best out of the Players – Yes
Could He Make O'Halloran a Good Rangers Player – Yes

Can he Improve A Team with Little Money – Yes

    Point Proven
Lets go and Get The Man who should have been First Choice

    #IWantTommyWright

  30. Wow what a result! What McInnes has said today is " listen lads I'm not the man, I can't see us getting passed Brenda anytime soon. I was offered £3m to go to Sunderland and I bottled it…so no chance I can run the Rangers…too scary"!

The board got lucky today that's for sure because at least McInnes was honest enough to turn us down confirming he couldn't do the job. We need to find the guy who believes he can beat Brenda.

My preference, certainly in the short term would be McLiesh and Murty.

    Lucky escape today people…

  31. I've already said on here that he was the guy I thought we should have went for before Pedro and was my first choice as as Pedro went, then as time went on I was becoming less keen. At the start a few people were saying give it to Murty and I just thought this was naive but as time went on I think he has done a great job.

This morning I'm actually asking myself do we need another manager? After all we appointed a DoF in Mark Allen, if that's what he actually is. In most clubs where they have a DoF they don't have a manager, they have a first team coach. Like most things with this board I think they have taken a half-arsed approach to the DoF/coach system so why not take this opportunity to try it out properly? Let Mark Allen do the DoF job properly and promote Murty into first team coach and let's just get on with it.

We can then use the lessons learned at the end of the season to know if the DoF/coach setup is something that will actually work for Rangers Football Club. And if not then we know we need to be looking for a proper manager and not just another coach who we give the title of manager to which is what I think the last two guys really were.

  32. I agree with Stevie No Biggy Take your time Get a Good one. IMHO The Greek and a couple of Aussie Players. would be better than McInnes As My "Boss Sez. Patience is a Virtue, Posses it if you can, You`ll find it in a Woman, But Seldom in a Man."

  33. The guy does not exactly have a stellar track record and has never beaten Celtic which really says it all.The board has taken to long to decide but if he can’t hack the job why waste yet more money on a non achiever who is in his comfort zone at Aberdeen. The Pedro appointment was a well meaning disaster and can’t afford to be repeated—-take your time but not to long now and Murty is a more than able stand in as he has shown with the side playing attractive football and much more importantly playing to their strengths with a fair smattering of our own lads involved .Ignore Sutton and Co —they don’t even pay to get in

  34. Seems there's bowls full of sour grapes going around on his site.mcinnes was pursued by the board through the press for weeks and was first choice for the manager's job.compensation to Aberdeen was a problem as money is tight at the club and the board were hoping Derek would do walking away so Aberdeen would have to accept money in installments.the board have shown a lack of integrity in this fiasco and the statement from them is trying to cover-up their ineptitude in running a football club.

  35. thursday morning headline. MILNE KEEPS HIS SHEEP DOG BY HIS SIDE PATS IM ON HEAD AND GIVES HIM HIS GOOD BOY TREAT?

  36. Chill guys… It's disappointing when people say no but YOU know to move on.
What if Pedro said NO! What if Le Guen said NO! Imagine…WTF!
It's friday, have a beer. Rangers will find a way AND a far better decision.
    Rangers 3 Ross C 0

  37. The new manager will be in place in Jan 2018 he will be giving money if he wants it if not then he will get the money next window, this new manager is still working and under contract he king said he wants some one who knows Scottish football so it could be some one under contract in SPFL or some one from england wales or ireland now i would say Murty could be the man for the job?or Ange Postecoglou or Tommy Wright outside chances Alex Neil or Stuart McCall or Garry Monk but i get that feeling that it is Murty or Wright and king and co know who it is right now.

  38. I also think Derek bottled it.I wish we could bring in Frank De Boer along with Ray Wilkins as No2 to get a bit of fight back

  39. I will tell you this is how i see it now we need a new top notch manager now and money to bring in top players did you hear that clown saying he thinks most of his players are not top notch well CL players i see what BR is going do many of them are getting moved on before next season starts and he is going buy in top notch players no room for younger players at Selltic now we are going be left standing if this is not sorted faster than fast, come on get the fucking new man in now.

  40. Comments about having 'dodged a bullet' are irrelevant. Whether you wanted McInnes as the next manager or not what is beyond doubt is that the absolute incompetence of this Board has once again thoroughly embarrassed our club. The writing was on the wall for Caixhina long before the Board admitted their mistake and pulled the plug. They had plenty of time behind behind the scenes for their due diligence and should have had a list of replacements lined up. Having waited 6 weeks to call the guy up the road – it now seems they have no plan B. Worse still the sour grapes statement has only added to the ridicule and embarrassment. As a club we desperately need to get back to former standards off the field as well as on it.
So where are we now. Murty until the end of the year. Unlikely therefore that Murty will be given access to any sort of transfer budget in the January window therefore here we are again losing months in the rebuilding job that desperately needs doing as the clock ticks down to Celtic's 10 in a row. Another season more or less written off! I really like Murty and admire the way he handles himself in the media with some dignity after the clown that was Pedro – but it very rarely works out when a back room coach steps up. Murty is also unlikely to have the clout to make any demands of the Board when it comes to player dealings.
A shambles and I am at a loss to know where we go from here.
As for McInnes he really has bottled it. Having turned down Sunderland and now Rangers you really do have to question his ambition. I look forward to the day he get's sacked from Aberdeen – and yes I realise that is sour grapes on my part.

  41. Excuse me but I think we are missing something here ….Mc Gutless was not a good percentage of the Rangers Fans Choice for lots of reasons … Cant beat the Rotten Mob Cant Beat Us ….Likes being little fish in a shitty pond … on and off the park … Lots of stories about his night life …. We need a Rangers Manager who knows what is required …has to be proven and has to know how to handle media and being Rangers manager ….lots of candidates ….Like to hear Mark Allen … not sure if he has the ability at that level though Academy etc. yes and hope he gets on with it .. Just shows you how pish the Scottish game is though when the Rotten Mob get humped by everybody in Europe every year but still win the SPFL

  42. Forget about McInnes. He bottled it enuf said! We need someone bigger anyway and has total commitment to the cause. The media are having a field day and selling their shite and people are getting caught up in it! Seems like our board saw through him and could tell he wasn’t the man for us. As for the compensation of a million, it would be better to use it elsewhere in a quality player and let GM do his stuff for us for a while. He is a good man and the players are on board. No need to fret boys.
