Wigan accept bid from Rangers for 24-year old defender

Rangers have had a bid accepted
by Championship side Wigan Athletic for their 24-year old defender, Rob
Kiernan.
The former Ireland U21
international, who has also had spells at Bradford, Accrington and Southend,
was due to move to Birmingham City permanently but the move fell through today over
certain (as yet unknown) areas of the medical, and Rangers have instead swooped
for the stopper, who new manager Mark Warburton knows well from his time at
Brentford.

As yet the fee is undisclosed but
if this deal pulls through and Kiernan accepts and passes the medical, the
transfer will be the first of the new era under Warburton and Weir, with many
other names still linked to Ibrox.
It would be expected such a signing
would be straight into the first team at Ibrox, either as a partner for Darren
McGregor or as a replacement.
The Warburton tenure gets
underway in earnest.

  1. Exactly the type of relatively unknown signing I expect we will sign. Don't expect the big marquee signings fellow bears. We will have some unknown gems of the lower English leagues I suspect. This boy (believe me when I say this) will be solid as a rock at the back for us.

  2. Some comments on Kiernan from fans of Birmingham (where he was on loan), on Youtube –

"Played very well indeed, that's the rock we needed at the back!"

"I like this kid very intelligent…word love to sign him perms if Wigan go down."

"That's exactly what my dad said to me"

    Sounds promising.

  3. Not filling me with confidence and will hardly help ST sales. lets hope there is better to come

    • As Anonymous 16:47 says it's this the kind of relatively unknown player that will make up the majority of our signings. There will be no big names and most of them we won't even have heard of. But, it's not about signing players to impress anyone, it's all about Warburton building a team that will do a job for us by fitting in with his way of playing football. The fact that the signing isn't filling you with confidence and you think it won't help ST sales would indicate that you haven't been paying attention over the last several weeks or just don't understand Warburton's way of doing things.

  4. Ain't ever heard of him but is that necessarily a bad thing . I hope not let's just trust the manager and I'm sure Davie weir can spot a decent defender Only thing Is I hope this doesn't mean Wilson isn't coming
