Rangers defender Connor Goldson is unlikely to be dropped after Philippe Clement ‘confirmed’ (we’re not sure we believe him in all honesty) that Leon Balogun is sick and unfit for Wednesday.
Following on from the bizarre oddity that Borna Barisic was ‘sick’ and yet sat on the bench anyway v Celtic, the news that the Nigerian is now randomly ill is unlikely to sit well with fans who are fed up with the sight of Goldson and crave Balogun back in defence in his place.
Speaking before the finally-approved Dens Park clash with Dundee, Clement claimed Balogun has been ill the past few days, which we must admit we’re struggling with given he was clearly fit and ready on the bench on Sunday.
Indeed, Clement said quite a few things in the presser which we have issue with, things which we let go in the past because we were winning, but now that the side and his management is skidding horribly, we are more willing to call out.
But the sight of Tavernier and Goldson in the starting XI, which clearly is about 99% guaranteed now, is not going to fill a lot of fans with joy, and evidently this manager isn’t willing to change it.
By writing off the natural replacement, Balogun, Clement has now ‘guaranteed’ that Goldson plays, and with Tavernier a dead-cert to take his RB slot up as usual, we can’t wait for a Tavernier, Goldson, Souttar and Barisic defence again. Oh yes, Ridvan remains unavailable as well, did we forget to mention that one.
Nothing changes if nothing changes, and it’s evident nothing changes under this boss any more than any previous one.
Can’t say these latest updates fill us with joy.
