We’ll pre-empt this article with:

‘Back the manager’

‘Support the team’

‘I think the manager knows better’

Ok, got that out of your systems?

Because this is one for the rest of the Rangers support who are actually capable of thinking for yourselves, making up your own views and not just blindly ‘accepting’ the manager’s decision.

Now, before we continue, this is in no way undermining Philippe Clement, we support him entirely to bounce back from the weekend’s loss. You don’t get to where he’s got to in football without being a bit good at what you do. The man is a fine manager.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t continually be frustrated by Connor Goldson’s immunity from being dropped, from his non-accountability to his errors and ‘blame everyone else’.

And it seems the majority of you do agree with this – in an Ibrox Noise straw poll, the lion’s share of Rangers supporters asked supported the notion, at least, of a ‘rest’ for the defender.

See, the big ‘caveat’ his biggest backers offer is ‘look what happened when he was injured’. Yes, when Leon King and James Sands were all we had to replace him…

We have Leon Balogun and John Souttar, not to even mention Ben Davies these days. It’s not the iron curtain, perhaps, but what makes Goldson so untouchable that he doesn’t need to earn his spot and everyone else does?

And the majority of fans agree.

Make Goldson just as vulnerable to being dropped as anyone else, make him earn his spot, put him on the bench, and see how the side does without him.

He makes plenty of errors, costs plenty of goals, but never answers to it.

Indeed, Clement has already backed him, confirming he’s number one pick and won’t be resting any time soon.

The rules of rotation just don’t apply to Goldson.

Surely that just isn’t healthy?
