With Rangers’ summer work already starting in earnest, Rangers’ Croat defender Borna Barisic seems set to secure his exit from Ibrox after his agent reportedly flew to Turkey for talks with Super Lig giants Trabzonspor.

The international left back, 31, has been subject to departure speculation for some seasons, and after a reported transfer in January to Roma fell through, Barisic has apparently made it clear he sees his future elsewhere and will try to secure a switch to Turkey under freedom of contract.

For those unaware, once a player is in the final 6 months of his contract, he’s completely free to negotiate with any club and any club is free to contact him directly about a potential move.

In this case, it appears Trabzonspor have stolen a march on the highly-lucrative Bosman, and they will attempt to persuade him to make the switch to Turkey this summer.

This will of course mean Rangers didn’t get a bean for him, having invested around £2M in 2018 for his services, and with his stock rising at Ibrox he was briefly worth into the £15M region.

But those days are long gone and his current value is around the maximum of £5M, which of course, Rangers won’t get as Barisic’s contract ends.

As the left back knows, Ridvan Yilmaz is now Philippe Clement’s first choice, and Barisic’s heart hasn’t been in it at Rangers for some time – his recent displays have been distracted, disinterested, and disheartened.

He has lost his first choice privilege and now has to be content on the bench as his successor takes his place – so for the ex-Osijek man, it’s time to move on.

Turkey? Unwise choice we’d say, after the Ryan Kent disaster with Fenerbahce, but then money talks and we’re sure Trabzonspor will tempt Barisic with a sweet signing on pot as well.

Ultimately, it appears he’s found his next club, and it’s just a matter of time before it’s official we’d wager.
