Borna Barisic could leave Rangers with ‘no decision made’

Rangers manager Philippe Clement admits he has no idea what is going to happen with Croatian defender Borna Barisic’s contract, with the LB’s deal expiring this summer.

The topic of Barisic, like John Lundstram, has been of much contention the past few months, and with no sign of either of them getting a new deal confirmed yet, the speculation will continue.

Our understanding is Lunny has been offered something he has principally agreed on, but it’s not been secured yet, and Barisic hasn’t even been offered one yet.

Clement said:

“I don’t know about any decision. Borna is training very well and is hungry to play. He has just come back from injury. So he will make his next steps in the next few weeks. No decision has been made.”

Now, this ‘decision’ could be on either party’s side – Rangers have to decide if they are going to offer the Croatia international a new deal, and he has to decide if he intends to leave this summer. It could be both.

Clement only advises that ‘no decision’ has been taken yet, which means as things stand, Barisic is leaving.

The fact no decision has apparently been reached on this topic with February almost over does point towards the likelihood that Barisic is going to move on this summer, but then, we did know Connor Goldson was offered a deal and took two years to sign it.

So we wouldn’t harbour too much weight with time periods.

Nevertheless, Barisic’s Rangers adventure has been mooted as expiring for quite a while, and we would be surprised if he remains, especially with the Jefte situation in the background.
