Sam Lammers’ slight dig at Rangers – unlikely to return

Sam Lammers has done an ‘Ianis Hagi’ and effectively confirmed he wishes to remain at his on-loan club permanently away from Rangers.

Speaking to Dutch press, the forward, who’s admittedly having a much better time in the Eredivisie for a lesser team than he was for Rangers, claimed he is basically wanted in Holland where he wasn’t at Rangers, sort of.

He said:

“We have not looked beyond this second half of the season, we will see what happens next after the season has ended. But during the period that I am here, I want to have an impact. I had signed a four-year contract in Scotland with the intention of staying in the same place for a long time. And I didn’t have to leave either. But Utrecht immediately registered an interest and took decisive action. That played a role in my choice last month.”

Playing cards a little close to his chest here, but clearly stating he’s happy in Utrecht.

He went on:

“They showed they wanted me and the positive conversations with Jordy Zuidam, the technical director and the manager, Ron Jans, along with the confidence I felt the whole club had, persuaded me to join them. And also because they shared my ambition of playing every week. I want to help Utrecht to a place where they belong, which means reaching European football. I want to show what I have learned in recent years, There’s a huge amount of quality in our team here at Utrecht.”

Not absolutely explicitly saying ‘I’m done at Rangers’ but close to it.

Lammers, for one who was so so poor at Rangers, does come across as a bit sour grapes, and has done since he left.

He’s been absolutely woeful at every club since returning to-then parent club PSV from his decent spell at Heerenveen 5 years ago, and he has quite a brass neck to extol his own virtues and importance without a hint of humility or recognition of how bad he was at Ibrox or any other club prior to Utrecht.

It’s also worth noting, as we hinted at the start, that he extols how much Utrecht ‘wanted’ him, as if Rangers didn’t, but he said the same trash at the start of his Rangers career, how desperately Rangers and Michael Beale wanted him and how hard they worked to get him.

Quite honestly, we called him a nice bloke but we’re not so sure now, and along with fellow ‘I’m too good for Rangers’ and ‘I’m way happier at my loan club’ Hagi, Lammers’ arrogance isn’t welcome at Rangers.

We’d be very surprised to see either of them in the blue shirt again.
