Rangers went definitively top of the league last night, joint with our Old Firm rivals Celtic, resetting the SPL clock for the season and restoring the blank canvas.
So what did the club mouthpiece Evening Times lead with?
An anti-Rangers story about Ronald Wattereus and a petty ditty about why he left the club from 20 years ago, citing spelling errors and being booed, plus fake injuries.
It was absolutely pathetic.
Evening Times are owned by Newsquest, who also run, as we’re sure you know, Rangers Review.
To publish this story on the day the side finally and permanently overhauled Celtic’s lead really wasn’t the kind of news we feel an unofficial Rangers outlet should be telling.
We get that it’s about clicks and revenue, but this was an absolute non-entity of a story – who the actual heck cares about why Ronald Wattereus left 20-odd years ago?
That the Times/Rangers Review rolled him out to slag the club off as amateur and the fans as hate-filled really wasn’t a good move at all and didn’t really endear them to the club in general – not that it’ll really make any real difference at all. Rangers will still give this partner the access they expect.
There was nothing strictly wrong with the interview itself, it’s of interest to Rangers fans we suppose, but the timing definitely could have been better – it’s as if it was timed to take the shine off top of the league.
‘Hey, we’re top of the league, but here’s 20 years ago when a player left on petty grounds and is claiming we’re a horrible club…’
Talk about a bit tone-deaf.
Anyway, thankfully the real issues are on the pitch and we’re top of the league – but when even your friends in the media are having a go, you know you probably don’t have any…
Fkn scum🙈
We will be champions get used to it 🫡
