In a late shock twist on Deadline Day, Rangers’ Jose Cifuentes appears to have changed his mind again, this time on the Cruzeiro move, and is now switching Govan for the Stadium of Light permanently instead to join the man who took him to Glasgow, Michael Beale.

Let’s be clear, there will twists, madness and mayhem today, not least Hamilton going to Ferrari!

But yes, it looks like Mick Beale is going to take Cifuentes off Rangers’ hands and sign him for Sunderland in what is actually a good move for the Ibrox side, especially given as the fee is likely to be double what we paid, in around the £2M mark.

A fair bit short of the boy’s former market value of the £10M range, true, but the signing clearly hasn’t worked out at Ibrox and Beale is evidently a big admirer.

Clearly Cifu didn’t want the ignominy of going home to South America, which is basically failure for any player for that region who gets out in the first place. The tail between their legs Morelos-style is the worst thing unless it’s twilight of career.

And the Championship is a good move for him – it’s a good league, and Rangers get some money for him permanently.

Beale is clearly a big fan, he worked so hard to get the guy in the summer, and was thrilled to bits when he secured him. Cifu’s stock in the MLS was very high indeed, he was regarded by many as LAFCs best player.

But it hasn’t worked at Rangers and now he will seemingly move south to Sunderland and rejoin Beale there.

All works out for Rangers really.
