Not a single Rangers fan will be unhappy to hear that Sam Lammers is to leave Rangers this window on loan, after it was internally agreed the Dutch ‘striker’ has been a complete fail at Ibrox and has lost his place entirely.
The £3M disaster signing from Atalanta by former manager Michael Beale has been a truly poor addition, with the former boss believing he’d get the Heerenveen version of Lammers from 2018, but sadly what arrived in Govan was a mile away from this and it’s understood there’s interest from the English Championship in Lammers’ signature.
The idea had been 2018’s Lammers was a striker on his way to the top of the game in Europe, but injury back at parent club PSV derailed him entirely, and Lammers completely lost his way.
Beale would sign this guy permanently, and we’d be inspired into that brilliant one from half a decade ago.
Sadly it didn’t work out that way, and Lammers probably goes down as the worst permanent signing Rangers have made since promotion back to the Scottish Premiership in 2016.
Rangers are unable to sell Lammers so easily because his wage is high, and unless he accepts a big cut in his salary, it will have to be a loan where Rangers are likely to be footing some of his continuing bill.
But it does seem that manager Philippe Clement has seen enough, and doesn’t see Lammers as part of the future at Ibrox.
Well, join the club mate.
