We cannot understand any more why Utrecht are signing Sam Lammers compared with Rangers.

The Dutch ‘striker’ has been on a deeply downward spiral in football ever since his 2019 injury, being passed from club to club like a pass-the-parcel game, and he’s never come close to his 2018 Heerenveen form.

Sadly, Lammers, going from one of Europe’s hot talents when he shone on loan away from PSV, has descended into a washed-up crash failure of a player, with zero confidence, little ability, and only honest workrate helping him.

What to this day we are absolutely staggered by is why Michael Beale signed him, why he lied that he’d followed the boy for years and while most clubs did want to sign the 2018 Lammers at the time, if Beale had followed him ever since he’d have known he was appalling.

This was a ridiculous borderline corrupt signing.

Michael Beale willingly spent £3M of Rangers’ pounds giving Lammers a 4-year deal, which makes us genuinely think the two of them might actually have been mates and Beale was doing his mate a favour.

Lammers was quite telling in saying Beale had gone the extra mile, gone to Italy to him and all of it.

Almost like a huge solid the former boss was doing for Lammers possibly knowing his Atalanta contract was expiring (Italian clubs never reveal contract length) and that this would be security for him.

We don’t know, we’re guessing on that one. Sounding ridiculous and likely paranoid but logically speaking the motivation for bringing in this broken striker is troubling.

We just can’t fathom a reason to sign the lad, given how horrible he is.

We imagine Utrecht forums are filled with disbelief that they are bringing him in as well, not that we can speak Dutch.

But hopefully he inexplicably shines there and they spend the purchase clause to keep him.

Because as far as failed signings go, Lammers is among the very worst players SPL Rangers have ever had.
