Cyriel Dessers is winning a few Rangers fans over…

Whisper it: some Rangers fan don’t hate Cyriel Dessers as much as they did…

Ok we kept it quiet there, but being serious, the Nigerian won a few supporters over last night with his absolutely outstanding finish having only arrived on the pitch moments earlier.

And it attracted a fair chunk of praise from fans who were previously angrily against the striker.

There is simply no arguing with his numbers:

18 goals and assists in 32 appearances is over a 50% goal contribution rate. While the pure goals is only 11, and over 32 appearances that’s not vintage, adding in the 7 assists as well and Dessers is earning his crust for sure.

And with his very cheeky and slick finish at Easter Road, more supporters are (grudgingly) willing to accept he does have something to offer the club.

One guy, pre kick off, even hated the lad so much he was willing to criticise the goal v Betis, despite it being voted goal of the month for December.

This is what Dessers has had to face in his time in Govan and Ibrox Noise has always been one of his most vocal backers.

We admit he’s not going to be a 30-goal a season man, and he isn’t much of a target man either. He’s an unconventional striker, but his goal last night demonstrated to a lot of supporters another string to the lad’s bow and while the faithful were admittedly in a good mood given the performance and result, maybe just maybe he is winning one or two over.

Dessers cost a lot of money, maybe too much – he hasn’t won the support over en-masse yet, and he has been one of the most unpopular names on the team sheet.

But Ibrox Noise has defended him time and time again, showing what he offers, and why Clement keeps using him.

Maybe the support will get off his back a bit now?
