Rangers’ injury list has taken a massive smack in the face after Nico Raskin, Ryan Jack and Scott Wright were joined on the treatment table by perennially-injured Tom Lawrence and newly-blighted Borna Barisic.

Just when the injury situation started seeming to improve, following Philippe Clement’s bold claims that the injuries would pick up in a couple of months, two further setbacks have hindered the manager’s plans and Wales international Lawrence and his Croat counterpart Barisic are now out, with no clear prognosis.

Barisic was injured in training, we understand, and it’s been classed as a ‘muscle problem’ while Tom Lawrence pulled up innocuously which is always the worst, and had to be removed on 18 minutes at Tynecastle.

The frustration for fans is two-fold:

Lawrence was starting to get a head of steam – sure his form wasn’t incredible (bear in mind he’s another Championship player who has limits) but he seemed to be getting some fitness momentum.

And Barisic was one of only two LB options which Ibrox Noise suggested was a situation simmering, teetering, with deputy Ridvan Yilmaz seeking a move away in January.

Added to the lack of ETA for Raskin, Jack and Wright, Rangers’ seasons-long injury issues just keep on going, and while we know that injuries will always happen at a football club, Rangers have absolutely had more than our fair share.

The thing is, Clement has now been manager for almost two months, and while initially there appeared to be some semblance of improvement, it’s right back to where it was.

Sure, not quite 15 players out, but 5 is still not ideal, and everyone is just waiting for Kemar Roofe to break down again too.

It’s a long way from good.
