Rangers missing up to 15 players for trip to Spain
Clement isn't thrilled with the bare-bones squad he has.

By now the world and his dog know the diabolical state of Rangers’ squad travelling to Betis tomorrow.

With manager Philippe Clement ruling Todd Cantwell out for personal reasons and Ryan Jack confirmed as continuing to be not ready, the squad is deeply, badly, appallingly-stretched and the options to face the Spaniards are among the thinnest we’ve ever seen for a Rangers match in Europe.

The XI practically picks itself there are so few options:

Tavernier, Goldson, Davies, Barisic, Lundstram, Sterling, Sima, Lammers, McAusland and Dessers up top.

We can’t see Kemar Roofe being able to start, but it’s not impossible, but he’s not a 9 in any case.

Bench?

Souttar, Cifu, Matondo, Roofe and a bunch of kids. This is how horrifically threadbare Clement has it in Spain.

True, Cifu might start (only suspended for domestic, not European), and true, Matondo could also get the nod, but the fact that Rangers really only have 14 outfield players to pick from is a travesty of epic proportions.

We have to temper our expectations hugely here – we’re relying on these guys producing a huge display, and quite honestly we’re not holding out much hope.

Philippe Clement doesn’t just have his hands tied here, they’re chained to wall along with his legs – the man is completely hamstrung for options and the biggest blow is he has no natural playmaker behind his striker.

From suspensions to mystery absences to injury, Rangers are absolutely ravaged with quite literally 13-15 players unavailable for Thursday.

The one consolation is there are a few creative attacking bench options, but it’s really slim pickings overall.

Thanks again Mick.
