Although earlier our content on Thursday’s crunch clash with Real Betis verged on a little fatalistic, while Rangers supporters like ourselves on Ibrox Noise obviously want to win the match, however unlikely that is, and get to the playoff spot in the Europa League, an Ibrox Noise poll confirms fans 100% choose Sunday’s cup final in priority.

And we couldn’t agree more.

Rangers simply do not have anywhere near enough trophies in the past 12 years since the end of the late, great Sir Walter’s reign.

Just one league title and a Scottish Cup is all we have to show for our journey, underachieving appallingly in the cups as we have given diddy sides like Aberdeen and St Johnstone have managed to win this stuff more than we have.

Sunday is the chance to turn 2 trophies in 12 years into 3 trophies in two and a half years, which is a much, MUCH more palatable statistic for a Rangers fan and a much more acceptable number for our club.

Indeed, it’s crazy to say it, but a league title and two cups in 30 months would be a quite ‘normal’ trophy haul for a typical Rangers side, albeit maybe a slightly underachieving one, but still a much, much better way to look at it than 2 in 12.

So there really is pressure, and sorry Real, but for us, Aberdeen is all we’re really looking at.

We need this cup as much if not more than the prior two since 2021 – this would be a flagship – not only would it be proof Clement is a serial winner, having only failed to won a trophy at one club in his entire managerial career, but it would also be a trophy within two months of him becoming manager.

It would also be our first League Cup trophy in a borderline generation – it’s silverware desperately needed, and hey, it would even comically mean the treble is on…

It’s huge – and make no mistake, our opponents will be at 200% for it.

Forget Pittodrie, Clement’s one big blot – this Sunday is the real deal and the one which matters.

Win this and it will mean everything to Rangers fans.

But Betis would be nice too…
