It’s simple – Philippe Clement, having truly given Ross McCausland a chance, has no reason not to start him now.
Rangers’ new star right winger, in itself a shock for us at Ibrox Noise to be able to say, is ripping it up on the flank, every chance he gets, and it’s safe to say that at 20, he’s ready.
He’s more than ready.
Rangers have searched for a right winger for years, we’ve not had a good one in as long as we can remember, the last average one was Daniel Candeias. Technically gifted but painfully lacking in pace, he’s the only significant RW Rangers have been able to call upon.
Rabbi Matondo still hasn’t owned the slot despite being here 16+ months, and Amad Diallo didn’t come close to being a solution.
But in just a handful of appearances, Ross McCausland has done more than any ‘predecessor’ ever did, and could finally, finally, FINALLY be the answer over there we have sought for years.
And he was free, and on our own doorstep.
The boy is already a Northern Ireland international, and he speaks very well too – he’s brighter than the average footballer and has technically scored twice.
Confidence is not a problem for him.
If Clement wants the balance in his team, he will start McCausland every chance he gets.
It’s not a question of ‘what about Todd Cantwell’, of course, because he should be playing centrally – the reality is Rangers now have McCausland and technically Matondo for the right wing. It’s good healthy competition, but it’s the Norn Iron boy’s position to lose.
From nowhere, Rangers now have a top class RW and we didn’t need to shell out £20M for him.
The final kicker? He’s one of us – as dyed in the wool a Rangers fan as you’ll get. We couldn’t have struck bigger gold than this.
