3 trophies in 2 and a half years. We’ve been preaching this for a few days now on Ibrox Noise, but this is MUCH more like the numbers we expect from our club, in terms of silverware.
Steven Gerrard with 55 in summer 21, Giovanni van Bronckhorst with the Scottish Cup in summer 22, and now Philippe Clement in barely two months on the job secures the League Cup at the first time of asking.
How do we assess all this?
Has he given us our Rangers back?
No, not just yet.
What Clement has done is shown he CAN.
With the right tools, the right funding, the right strategy, Philippe Clement can bring back a dominant Rangers that just wins. The man is a winner, like so many of our greats before him, he just knows how to win.
Just one duff result since arriving, Aberdeen away, obviously, shows how incredible a manager he actually is.
That despite our continuing bewilderment on Ibrox Noise that he sticks with Borna, Tav and Goldson, he clearly knows exactly what he is doing.
He will make mistakes, absolutely. Even the Great Walter didn’t get everything right.
But the Late Great man would be proud of what Philippe has accomplished in just 9 weeks at Ibrox.
Last 16 of Europa and the League Cup with THIS shambolic squad not to mention a theoretical lead now in the SPL is a staggering achievement and he deserves a tonne of credit.
Let’s face it, this is because of him.
How far can he go?
Well, as we say, we truly have our Rangers back when we start regularly winning the league. That’s what it is to be Rangers, to realistically expect the title.
We’ve not been able to do that under any previous manager since Walter, hope rather than any expectation.
But now, with the right tools, support and budget, Clement can absolutely bring that back.
We’re not quite there yet, but with this manager, we think we’re on the right path.
