Rangers fans can’t decide if they want Shankland or not

So another Lawrence Shankland goal, another swathe of calls from Rangers fans to sign him up. We’re a bit tired of the pattern we’re seeing over this guy, who we’ve called for as an Ibrox addition for the best part of three years.

The pattern never changes; Shankland scores goal, fans on social demand the club signs him, Ibrox Noise repeats our own assertion from years ago that the boy would score a boatload for us, then the responses all change to the contrary ones claiming he’s not good enough.

It’s the same every single time, and it’ll be the same again here – all those calls for him to get the switch to Rangers made on Thursday evening go quiet, and now it’ll be back to fans thinking he’s not good enough.

We saw another Rangers site suggesting he’s not good enough, and another one asking for him to be signed – even the fan sites fall all over themselves to be inconsistent on this.

But facts are facts. The boy keeps scoring, he’s been a success in the Scottish Premiership and he’s got 2 in 6 for his country. He is a natural-born goalscorer.

As we’ve said before he’d cost a lot of money, but there’s little doubt he’d be a better acquisition for us than Cyriel Dessers has sadly been – Rangers, in dumping Antonio Colak, lost the most natural pure goalscorer this club has had in a generation, and Shankland is of the same ilk.

He scores boatloads for a much inferior team to Rangers, imagine what he’d do for us.

But there’s no point in us preaching Shankland again – we’ll just be greeted by the same derision we are every time we mention him, following the fan favour previously.

Should we sign him? Yes. Will we? Who knows.

One thing is for sure, until we do, this pattern will keep repeating itself.
