Some reports this morning are claiming that Philippe Clement wants to add a left back and striker, well, it’s abundantly clear Rangers need a lot more than just those two positions going forward but we will focus on up top.

It is certainly evident that none of Rangers’ strikers are up to scratch – Danilo might have shown some promise and started hitting a rich vein of form, but his absolute limitations were exposed in an ineffective performance against Aberdeen in which his lack of power was obvious and he failed to truly push Roos.

Rangers also do not have a centre-forward of the Alfredo Morelos vein up top, a strong and mischievous striker who can harass the defence and make things happen on his own.

Cyriel Dessers, while his stats are above average, has not shone as a target man at all and can’t be relied on to make things tick, while Sam Lammers, hard as he might work, doesn’t have the quality in that area to be effective.

And sadly, those three are all Rangers now have, thanks to Mick Beale dumping Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos, both of whom were infinitely superior to what is available presently.

There is of course Abdallah Sima, but after threatening to shock us all by looking like a genuine striker with a stunning run of 5 matches in a row and 7 goals, he’s back to the original Bambi on Ice and since that run ended on the 21st of last month v Hibs Sima’s nailed neither a goal nor assist in 5 weeks.

So we sure can’t rely on him either.

It’s clear Philippe Clement needs a serious and proper striker, a unit of a boy, a strong target man of the ilk of Alfie, but bigger, tougher, and quicker. Preferably with a good attitude too, that would be nice.

But the manager is said to be working on bringing that in, and we doubt he’s going to stop there.
