Philippe Clement has declared Thursday’s win over Sparta Prague as the best match of his fledgling career at Ibrox.
Combining quality football with grit and staying power, Rangers gutted their way to the 3 points, with a hint perhaps of small fortune too in there as the manager contented himself with the result and the overall match.
Speaking afterwards he said:
It is clear the first 30 were outstanding, with a slight tail off towards 45, before the second half brought out the grittier side.
He went on:
Clement acknowledges his squad is still nowhere near at the level he wants, in terms of fitness, but that inside a month of him taking over, it was able to play like that against Prague then hold out for 45 minutes with some gritty grinding is what he wants.
We know the team isn’t going to be stunning for all 90 minutes in matches of this calibre in general, and the manager is delighted with the level we did hit in that first half, and for seeing it out.
It’s still early days under Clement, but boy are they promising.
Fantastic from the famous🫡
