It now appears the four men in strongest position to be new Rangers manager are:
Graham Potter. Kjetil Knutsen. Pascal Jansen. And Kevin Muscat.
These four appear to be whittled down now and all four are interested in the job, from what we understand.
Let’s go through the situations with each:
Potter:
Sky Sports have confirmed the story from the s*n and clickbait insider was fiction and Graham Potter wasn’t only not approached about the Rangers job, he absolutely didn’t say no. This doesn’t mean the ex-Chelsea boss is definitely 100% eager for the gig, but reports to the contrary are pure fiction. But we’re not aware of the club taking an active interest in him yet.
Knutsen:
Is said to be interested in the job, but with Bodø/Glimt in their obligatory top of the table position, the honourable Norwegian doesn’t want to leave them in the lurch and hanging without finishing the season (there’s 7 matches to go), so that one might be tricky. But he is definitely a winner and he’s well-rated in European football.
Jansen:
Unconfirmed reports claimed the AZ boss had already flown in for talks, but we do know he’s interested and has put his hat in the ring. Rangers are a huge club in Holland, especially with our historical connections to that part of the world. Alkmaar are flying high under him, and have done for a few years now, and he possibly feels it’s time to move on because they are unlikely to win the title.
Muscat:
Reports last night confirmed Muscat has not taken his contract extension, offered some weeks ago, and is out of contract in just a few months, meaning compensation now would be utterly minimal. The Australian is prominent in this story, but some are pointing to his current side’s travails (their current form isn’t great) and the fact he absolutely crashed in Belgium. He is definitely interested though.
And that’s the main four.
