There’s been big talk about Borna Barisic lately – it’s being said that home country Dinamo Zagreb are massively interested in signing the left back alongside a few Turkish mobs, particular Rangers’ old friends Fenerbahce not to mention Trabzonspor.
Now, Europe-wide the transfer window is mostly closed, but Cyprus and Turkey both have 11 more hours of their window while Israel has until the 20th.
So there is still time (just) for clubs in those three countries to sign players from wherever they like.
Barisic is under heavy speculation – there are (incredibly) dubious claims from (dodgy as heck) reporter Fraser Fletcher that Rangers have opened new contract negotiations with him, but if Fletcher said it was raining we’d open the window and check.
So we’re not putting too much weight on what he says.
But we do know Barisic is under intense speculation and clubs are interested in his signature – he is also not getting any younger and we cannot be bothered with another Ryan Kent Alfredo Morelos or Connor Goldson scenario of a contract saga.
It’s a pain, frankly.
It is verging on too late to sell him, while equally Ridvan isn’t going to be fit any time soon, not to mention how difficult it seems to be to get players to extend these days.
Barisic isn’t overly popular with fans, but he is currently our only recognised LB – his form is also decent right now, and he’s worth holding onto.
But we do suspect this is another player Rangers are going to lose for free next summer.
