What now for Rangers defenders James Tavernier and Connor Goldson?

As regulars will know, Ibrox Noise has never and never will shy away from the contentious Rangers issues.

It gets us a few detractors, we know, but the majority of our audience appreciates our honesty, our project, our desire to make Rangers as good as we can by urging the club, the manager and the players to live up to traditional Rangers expectations, and not the ones where some fans actually reckon Scott Wright is good enough or that Jon McLaughlin was.

And with that in mind, we’re broaching a taboo topic. We’ve already discussed our disdain towards James Tavernier, so you pretty much all know how we feel about his merits (or lack of) to play as our first choice right back.

But he’s not the only culprit. Connor Goldson too is a very, very mediocre defender – we’ve made a very strong case against the ex-Shrewsbury stopper, highlighting that his career prior to us was about as average as it got.

Carlos Cuellar, David Weir, even Madjid Bougherra he isn’t, even though a sizeable chunk of our fans think he’s practically Maldini.

We’re not going to rant the case against Goldson any further, we did plenty of that yesterday in a piece which was universally supported by all the responses we received, so we know there’s a lot of you who don’t rate Goldson, unlike Bob Malcolm who calls him our best defender by a mile and reckons he should be captain. This is why Boab isn’t revered quite like Barry is.

But are you bold enough to actually drop them both?

We saw how strong John Souttar was in Goldson’s place last season, while Tavernier’s porous preseason was no surprise given how weak he is, and Dujon Sterling’s cameo completely outclassed him.

Beale probably won’t, he will likely select the pair of them, but what would you do?

That’s right, we’re leaving the choice up to you – enough of our ranting, what do you think? Are we just wrong?
