Champions League v Europa League for Rangers?

So the tie against PSV is now upon us, with the riches of the UCL within our grasp – the promised land for Elite European Club Teams!!

But, do Rangers want to be there?

Now this is based on what we saw last season, total humiliation & the worst-ever performance in the Champions League. Yes the income generated was welcome indeed, but those performances last season undid all the impressive performances from the season before with our magnificent journey on the road to Seville.

All the fans last season missed the football after New Year, maybe we have been spoilt over the past few years with decent runs in Europe, but it was always good knowing that your European Adventures were still taking place at the business end of the season.

So it begs the question, would you prefer the UCL along with the fear of history repeating itself or would you prefer UEL knowing that the money is less but we are better matched to the teams in this competition, with a more of a chance of going further?

We are in a better position squad wise this season compared to last season. Goalkeeper signing has worked out well, defence is not too bad, midfield looks exciting, upfront could be better – overall there are more options now to call upon. So does that give us confidence that we can compete at the top table this season?

Maybe it’s because the European nights on a Tuesday/Wednesday come with a sense of hope, where as those European Thursday nights come with a sense that we could win against the vast majority of the teams we were up against.

I get that money talks, and with that it’s a no brainer wanting to have UCL football for your club, especially with them across the city getting that money automatically thanks to our European performances to enhance the coefficient for Scotland.

I have no doubt that if we win tonight, and depending on the draw & the teams we could face, then the board will factor in the possibility of no European football after New Year in their ticket prices for UCL matches – as they will need to maximise their income for those three home matches.

I am torn on this question myself.

Love us being back in UCL, but don’t like the thought of poor results again.

A dilemma!
