The time for Rangers talking ends – this is where Beale gets judged

So we’ve talked about our predicted team, a lot of agreement from the audience albeit just a few wary of Lundstram believing Dowell will start ahead of him, or Sima, but what we know is regardless of who starts, a win is absolutely critical.

Celtic have secured 3 points already, going 3-0 up before a slightly hairier second half saw a 4-2 win the final result. Brendan Rodgers’ side is far from flawless, and it was reportedly nowhere near as one-sided as the first half scoreline implies, meaning there’s plenty of chinks in the Parkhead armour for sure.

But the final score is the main currency, and Rangers absolutely unequivocally have to match or exceed Celtic’s result – essentially, winning no matter what, and preferably with a better goal difference.

Michael Beale signed a glut of forwards, and this was with a view to making Rangers more clinical with all those chances. So while Killie is a tough place to go and a horrible surface to play on, a massive statement of intent could be made with a 3-0 score, or even better.

This is where Michael Beale starts to be properly judged – he’s signed HIS team, HIS players, and he’s had total control over who comes in. There’s been no dilution of responsibility – Giovanni van Bronckhorst did NOT sign Ben Davies or indeed any of last summer’s incomings, but Michael Beale has been afforded utter control over all these players.

This team is now truly in his image, and he’s picking his players and his design.

The only players in this XI he had no responsibility in signing are James Tavernier and John Souttar – the rest are all his, including Ryan Jack who HE extended, and John Lundstram, who he was assistant when Steven Gerrard signed him.

And Beale himself admits this is now where we start to rate him or otherwise.

Let’s hope for a strong start to this season.
