Rangers have completed the immediate signing of Jose Cifuentes and will announce him inside 48 hours, following the Ecuador international’s £1.2M move to Govan.

Getting him for less than half the number LAFC wanted (£3M) is a testament to the absolutely outstanding negotiating skills of James Bisgrove, who manager Michael Beale has confirmed has taken over this part of player signing work from ex-Director of Football Ross Wilson, so Rangers have now managed to secure a player worth around £12M for 10% of that price.

Of course, he’s final 6 months of his deal, so that’s why he’s only a fraction of the full market value he has, and this was a very, very VERY long and protracted deal which saw twists and turns aplenty.

The final hurdle was visa and work permit, all of which have been successfully negotiated and Cifuentes passed his medical today, meaning barring any crazy last-minute hitches, the 24-year-old will become Michael Beale’s 9th signing this summer following Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Leon Balogun, Abdallah Sima, Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo.

We’ll have more on this breaking story once the midfielder is (finally) announced.
