The Yohan Bakayoko to Burnley story is a big transfer saga in light of Rangers’ second leg with PSV next week.

The Belgian winger, 20, who plies his trade for Peter Bosz’ Eindhoven side, was outstanding against Rangers and is in high-demand with Burnley the main suitor, having had a £17M bid for the attacker rejected.

The catch?

PSV are absolutely determined to keep hold of him until the end of the Rangers tie, with a group place all to play for between the sides.

Burnley sending in a much stronger bid around £25M would surely clinch it, and of course, this would benefit Rangers with the attacker not giving Borna a tough night next week as a result.

Vincent Kompany really wants the boy, and is prepared to dig deep to get him, but Peter Bosz and PSV are determined to hold onto one of their star players at least till the end of the playoffs because they would much rather face us at the Philips Stadion with Bakayoko in their side than off to the Premier League.

So, in a roundabout way, Kompany could be doing Rangers a big favour if he ups the bid, if he offers PSV what they clearly want for the lad.

His market value isn’t even said to be astronomical – most outlets peg him at the £10M mark, but his performances in recent times have persuaded Kompany to push the boat out.

The question is will he push it far enough out that Rangers will not be facing the Belgian next week?

That remains to be seen. Anything which helps us can’t be a bad thing.
