“But wur skint”. Now even Ibrox Noise did project around £8M-£13M tops for this window, with Rangers’ finances suggesting we had to be thrifty with our budget.

Early indications didn’t suggest otherwise either, with three free additions in Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling. Rangers didn’t spend any money till £2.5M on Sam Lammers, then went back to the free/loan market with Abdallah Sima.

But then it changed. It really changed.

That £2.5M on Lammers. £4.5M rising to £6M on Cyriel Dessers, £6M on Danilo, £3M on Auston Trusty, and £3M on Jose Cifuentes.

Now, these aren’t all secured yet, but these are now the numbers Rangers are working with.

Bear in mind, last summer we actually spent a lot of cash – most of it completely wasted on Ben Davies (£5M) and Rabbi Matondo (£3M) but the £5.5M on Ridvan was a good use of cash (not that it seemed it at the time) and Antonio Colak (£2M) was far from a fail. But that was still over £15M.

This summer? We’ve already spent £8M. It appears we’ve also added £3M Cifuentes to this. So £11M. And if we add Trusty’s £3M-£4M (if we can get him for that range) and of course Danilo’s whopping £6M, then we are looking at a summer spend of £21M.

And that would be a staggering amount of cash for a club who has no money, apparently.

Have Rangers sold the fans and media a dummy? Yes, a little bit. While the accounts didn’t make for terribly reassuring reading at the time, it does appear Rangers have money.

Why?

James Bisgrove. We’ll talk more about the wheres and whys later, but for now, Rangers are potentially looking at spending £21M this window, which is infinitely more like what we needed to invest.

Sure, £50M would have been nice! But we must live within our means and the monies spent and the monies being bid aren’t being magicked out of thin air, and Rangers’ massive revenue of the past 18+ months are finally paying dividends.

Nice isn’t it!
