The world’s worst-kept secret is out, after Brazil’s Danilo was finally confirmed a Rangers player today, on a reported fee of £6M with an eye-watering £40,000pw wage package.

He becomes Michael Beale’s 8th signing following Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima, Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers and goes straight into contention with Dessers for the striker berth, giving Beale some major firepower options up front.

For those who don’t know too much about Danilo, he’s a solid-scoring Eredivisie performer, with 29 goals in 81, but a career season peak of last campaign where he scored 14 in 48 with 4 assists. We admit this isn’t a staggering return, but at only 24 Michael Beale has a firm belief this guy is ready to truly make his mark in football and has invested big money to make it happen.

He was a major part of Feyenoord’s title win, which means he becomes the second Feyenoord champion Rangers have signed in 2 years, following ex-manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and there’s an even bigger curiosity:

Danilo was signed by Feyenoord to replace the outgone Cyriel Dessers, himself excelling at the De Kuip till he moved to Cremonese, and of course, he is now a Ger too.

So Rangers have spent £12M signing the top Feyenoord strikers of the past two seasons as well as their manager!

As for his style, at the same height as ex-striker Alfredo Morelos (5ft 9) Danilo is not a target man – instead he’s a much quicker, more direct threat – he will not bring others into play so much, even if he can be good for assists. He’s much more of a Jermain Defoe than Morelos, but younger and quicker, albeit maybe not as absolutely clinical with the finish.

He’s an interesting addition and a very expensive one. Time will tell if he’s a good one; welcome to Rangers Danilo!

  1. Have high hopes for this boy, looking forward to seeing him getting settled in quickly and it would be great if he and us don’t need to wait too long to see his first goal, the first of many I might add. 💙💙
