Mystery surrounds Michael Beale’s admission last night that he rejected a ‘very good player’ as a new signing because he didn’t ‘fit’.
The Rangers manager has been working very hard on recruitment the past few weeks and the Ibrox club have already made 6 signings, with the bulk of July still to go, but it’s the cryptic admission, that naturally Beale wasn’t going to name, that one player didn’t fit what the manager wanted.
He said:
There have been many, many names linked with the club this summer, and the one who strikes us as the worst fit of those linked was Aris’ Luis Palma, a long-linked striker that stopped completely and very suddenly as Rangers publicly pulled out.
Of course, we could very well be barking up the wrong tree, but either way, he was the one we absolutely felt was a ‘no’ all the way, and we’re very glad that signing didn’t happen.
Another candidate could be Haji Wright, who Rangers did bid big money for, rejected, and then it all went quiet after a while. Perhaps he was the man Beale didn’t click with when they met face to face.
But ultimately the mystery is set to last a very long time, because Beale will never give the name of the player in question, as that would be unprofessional.
Then again, Rangers’ manager does like to say far too much at times so you never know!
