It has been confirmed by multiple sources officially now that Rangers will NOT be signing Malik Tillman for £5M, £10M or any other sum, after Bayern cancelled the optional purchase agreement in his loan contract and compensated Rangers out of goodwill.
The USA international’s future has been of a lot of discussion in recent weeks, with the majority of Rangers fans deeply against spending anything more than around £2M on him, having been impressed with some of his play but overall lacking certainty about him thanks to his poor and underwhelming performances in significant matches.
As such, £5M was deemed way too much and despite Michael Beale’s inexplicable obsession with trying to get the lad permanently, Rangers’ manager will not secure his man and Tillman will move onto pastures new this summer.
Bayern’s kind gesture towards Rangers sees the Bavarian giants giving the Ibrox side £1M compensation and a 10% sell on clause for any sale they manage to produce for the boy – as Ibrox Noise reported yesterday, his list price just doubled to £8M-£10M+, and it’s said German and English sides are interested – Brentford among those we know about.
Bayern themselves are not interested in the playmaker, but do appreciate Rangers’ care of Tillman, and have shown grace in compensating the club for withdrawing the agreement.
If it was obligation to buy, it would be a bit different – Bayern would not be able to cancel that agreement, but it being optional, they’ve shown some class and given us a little compensation for their changed goalposts on him.
But the upshot of all this is Rangers get some free cash and then a bit more if Tillman gets sold by the Allianz Arena giants, and Michael Beale doesn’t get his man.
Which, honestly, few supporters are unhappy with. Beale was about the only Rangers man who actually wanted Tillman, so this leaves only him a bit disappointed.
More fish in the sea Michael, and they’re way better than Tillman!
We move on!
