Rangers have been hit by a significant blow after it was confirmed Connor Goldson is now a doubt for the start of next season following the vice-captain ruled out for a minimum of 10 weeks.

The Rangers stalwart, never injured until the ‘Liverpool incident’, has now seen his season disrupted significantly with a third injury in recent times, meaning from untouchable and almost invincible, the defender’s fitness is now becoming a problem.

Rangers do of course have a quite comfortable and arguably superior replacement in the form of John Souttar, who has been completely outstanding since returning to the side, but nevertheless Goldson is viewed as a talisman of the club and it may require investment in the summer window.

Indeed, Rangers’ defence is now case-critical with just one senior defender actually available, in the form of the former Hearts man, and while Leon King is indeed fit too, he’s not convinced as being a realistic solution.

Goldson, Filip Helander and Ben Davies are either injured or leaving, or both in some cases, and Rangers will absolutely 100% need to dive into the transfer market and bring in some quality if the club is to have any hope of a European run especially.

With Goldson potentially out till mid-August, he is a massive doubt to even start the domestic season, and Rangers absolutely must have a healthy bank of defenders of a high standard because we can’t go into next season in the mess we ended up this one.

And Goldson’s injury means a new signing or three are definitely needed.

Rangers are going to have to spend some money, as well as exploiting the invaluable Bosman market, in order to have at least four alpha stoppers come pre-season.

Work definitely needs to be done here.
