Rangers must avoid Luis Palma with a bargepole after his agent Paolo Hernandez admitted his client wants the Premier League albeit will struggle with a tonne of red tape to get there.
The South American, Honduran to be exact, has been linked with a move to Rangers for a while now, but his agent Paolo Hernadez claims around 10+ teams are interested in securing him, but thanks to his lowly current league and lack of caps for his country, isn’t able to get the move to England.
This is due to new rules since Brexit regarding the standard of footballer coming into the Premier League – he doesn’t have enough caps for his country in a set period of time, and his current league is too low a standard for it to be an easy transfer.
So as a result, the move to Rangers is being ‘green-lighted’ by the Scottish press as a goer for Rangers, but clearly the last thing we want is a player who overtly doesn’t want to be at our club in the first place.
Palma only wants the Premier League, and he and his agent are not shy about stating that – so this would be a signing of a player who already wants to leave for the Premier League as soon as a decent offer comes in.
This isn’t what we want.
We already get it, Rangers (and Celtic) are seen as stepping stones to the Premier League and that’s fine, we’re not naïve enough to think every player who comes to Ibrox wants us for us and is completely content here.
But there’s also discretion, and keeping ambition quiet – and while the whole squad bar a few would be thrilled with a PL offer, they tend to keep it mum. Unless they were Alfredo Morelos or, lately, Glen Kamara. Even Nico Raskin said it too, although he was wise enough to also emphasise how great Rangers are and how happy he is here.
But Palma? He’d be focused on a move to England before he even signed our contract.
Don’t care if he’s 30 goals in 15 appearances, he already doesn’t want to be at Ibrox.
