As we alluded to in the last piece, Rangers fans who are having a go at Ryan Kent, calling him a ‘waster’ or a ‘waste of £7.5M’ are speaking irrationally, emotionally, and aren’t being fair to the winger at all.

As we’ve been preaching for some time, no one in the SPL has a higher impact in the last third of the pitch than Kent, with his chances created (not assists) consistently among the highest in the league since 2018, when he signed on loan.

Indeed, this season, his worst since joining, Kent still ranks fourth in the league for key passes, behind only Tav, Jota and Barisic, and he’s the best in the league for dribbling, managing more than anyone including Duk and Jota.

For assists he’s 5th, for passing he’s 8th and for chances created he remains 5th this season.

So, a player who fans reckon does nothing, gives nothing, and is useless, yet for every single stat that matters to an attacking creative player, he’s consistently among the very best in the division.

It’s just bitterness, from some fans who were singing his name when he crushed Celtic in the past, when he obliterated Dortmund single-handedly, you name it.

See, the two big issues about Kent from Rangers fans seem to be if he doesn’t commit one sizzling eye-catching dribble and goal or assist, he’s done nothing. They ignore every other contribution he makes deeper in the team, and only pay heed to the Hollywood run or goal. If there isn’t one, he was a waster.

The other big issue is another one that’s completely false or unfair – fans are raging that he’s leaving for nothing. But the reality is that we’ve taken advantage of this rule so many times ourselves, and got players worth £20M or more for free, all because of precontract. Fans more than happy with that. It’s just that when it’s us seeing our own player of big value leave, our fans lose the plot.

And in tandem with this, we paid for a 4-year deal, and that’s what we got. We paid market value for a high-quality winger who paid it back in performances and contribution. And that’s him finished at Rangers, and wishing to try a new challenge.

But the fans resent this because we’re not getting the £7.5M back.

There’s a negativity and bitterness about fan opinion towards Kent we find abhorrent – the guy did nothing at Ibrox but hold himself well, he never whined about leaving, he never hid, he just kept going.

And he now moves onto a new adventure yet some fans basically hate him.

That’s up to them but we’re not joining in.
