It’s the question on quite a few Rangers fans’ lips – what now for Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

We clearly know now that ‘getting into the Champions League’ isn’t in any way a carrot for them – we previously believed it might be an incentive, but those deals have been on the table since well before Rangers’ failed campaign, and it didn’t lead to signatures.

So what now?

Do both players just intend to cost Rangers millions by running their contracts down?

Ryan Kent is the only one to have actually addressed the speculation, but in truth he batted it away a bit and failed entirely to even remotely commit, only saying he would sit down with Michael Beale, without putting any kind of timescale on that.

He did speak highly of the boss, but stopped well short of saying he was happy at Ibrox and would stay. So Kent, maybe once happy at Ibrox, seems now to be falling below that and we can’t even say he isn’t putting his money where his mouth is, because he’s not making any promises.

There are some theories online that he’s actually waiting for his contract to expire before signing a new one, the idea being that Liverpool are owed a sell-on fee and it will deactivate as soon as he’s a free agent. Meaning the day he expires is the day he will sign. The claim is this is what happened with Connor Goldson, but nothing he said himself backed that up. In fact, he contradicted it by saying he’d only made his mind up round the table with his family a week before he phoned Giovanni.

So that’s nothing more than a theory. And a very thin one.

Meanwhile there’s Morelos. Again, information claims he’s actually signed a precontract with a European side, but of course, if that was true, they’d have announced it – that’s how that works. He’s kept completely quiet on all fronts, not talking to the media even in his native Spanish, so we couldn’t guess what his position is.

All Morelos does is post cryptic nonsense on social media. But the reality is he expires when Kent does and his performances have not suggested he’s eager to stay.

So what happens with both of them? As things stand they become free agents, but anything can happen. Chairman Douglas Park has claimed they’re asking for too much money to stay, and his hands are tied. So we just roll with whatever happens.

We’ll cope if they leave, Rangers are bigger than any two men.
