Borna Barisic has silenced his Rangers doubters as Croat returns
BLACKPOOL, ENGLAND - JULY 16: Borna Barisic of Rangers celebrates scoring a goal during the Pre-Season Friendly match between Blackpool and Rangers at Bloomfield Road on July 16, 2022 in Blackpool, England.

On the subject of Borna Barisic, Ibrox Noise remains disappointed with a distinct portion of Rangers’ ‘support’ who absolutely demonised the Croat along with Amad Diallo and John Lundstram during the spring of last year, showing not an ounce of backing but instead purely abuse.

The same portion of ‘fans’ are now singing the praises of two of those, and wishing Diallo was back at Ibrox given he’s doing quite well at Sunderland.

It really does horrify us seeing what social media has done to the support, giving people a platform to spit absolute venom in emotional red mist, without a hint of consequence. This platform allowed these fans to hurl the worst insults at Barisic, at Diallo, at Lundstram, and no one held accountable for some comments.

Borna has only regained that goodwill in the last couple of months, thanks to the new boss and the return of the Borna song, but the fact that fans didn’t support him in his lowest days a year ago shows the true nature of a few portions of those who would allege themselves to be Rangers fans.

We know, we’ve often been critical too – we weren’t happy about Goldson’s contract shambles, we weren’t (and aren’t) happy with McLaughlin’s ability (let’s face it, he’s been a horrific signing), we’ve been harsh on Tavernier as a captain and we were also hard on Sakala too.

We don’t claim to be better than anyone else. But there was something different last year, with a significant chunk of fans truly hating on Borna, who’d given so much up till then, on the back of a bad first half in the east end of Glasgow.

So, we’re absolutely delighted he’s found his feet again, and that he’s proving his doubters wrong. We were never one, but we did believe the signing of Ridvan was the end for Borna purely on the amount spent. That just didn’t happen because Gio quickly realised he was a literal turkey.

Barisic is the much better player, and he’s proving his attributes all over again – a lot of fans are eating humble pie and he’s happy playing at his best again.

Michael Beale did a great job getting our Croat back to his best, and Rangers will be all the better for it.
