Rangers fans have made a choice of all the eight injured players, in a hypothetical Ibrox Noise poll to see which one they’d have back in the XI raring to go if such a scenario was possible.

Currently injured are Filip Helander, John Souttar, Ridvan Yilmaz, Steven Davis, Kemar Roofe, Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi and Antonio Colak, and Rangers supporters were asked which one they’d love to see fit the most.

The strongest answer was Wales’ Tom Lawrence, with honourable nods towards four others, while three barely got a look in.

While it wasn’t overwhelming, the creative attacker signed from Derby was the majority choice, with Hagi, Roofe, Colak and Davis all strong contenders in there too, while Helander, Souttar and Yilmaz barely registered.

It goes to show how well-rated Lawrence was during his time at Ibrox, a time which is, sadly, being a bit derailed at present, but nevertheless he’s the one most fans would love back in the side.

Why?

Despite never having played at a good level in his career beyond the Championship or four Premier League outings, Lawrence thrived in the Champions League qualifiers for Rangers, and while not consistently imperious, showed serious signs of settling down in the shirt and under the Govan spotlights – he showed the shirt wasn’t too big for him

His stats were very good for a Rangers playmaker: 3 goals 2 assists in 9 appearances. That’s right, he only ever played 9 times for the club, but showed enough overall that fans wanted to see more, and even then he only actually made 7 starts of those 9 appearances for Rangers.

That said, there’s possibly a bit of ‘gets better the less he plays’ about him, because his performance at Easter Road, aside from the goal, wasn’t exactly impressive. But the signs were there that he has a lot to offer.

Unfortunately, his injury has completely wrecked his season at Ibrox, so we’ll go into that in another entry, but he is the player most fans would love back in the team at his best.

Sadly, it’s not happening any time soon.

  1. It’s a real pity he can’t get back to fitness as he did look like a player we could really use. He’s wrong can score and seemed to fit the style of play including the SPFL effect . I hope he can return but it doesn’t look good. Its going to be a hard last few months of those season as it doesn’t look like we will freshen the squad for various reasons mostly which are financial . Its also a pity that any Scottish player we show any intrest in is automatically overpriced or not for sale when it’s the Famous enquiring .
