Douglas Park admits Rangers haven’t offered enough for star pair

Rangers have today claimed the club has tried to negotiate with both contract rebels Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos but they just want too much and there’s no reasoning.

Douglas Park, chairman of the board, explained that everyone at Ibrox wants both attackers to remain in Govan, but the offers made don’t match the players’ expectations and therefore they’re not interested in signing.

In short, they want more money, so claims the club’s board and Park.

Is this accurate? We know money talks, but Rangers’ budget is much more limited than it once was – despite reports Jermain Defoe got a massive wage, the highest in the club’s history of around £35,000, that kind of investment just isn’t feasible within the club’s means these days, and Rangers can’t be going around offering the kinds of numbers PL or top five leagues etc can.

So our best offer has to be modest by comparison – of course, it’s moot if the player actually wants to leave, but then as we say, pound signs really do resonate with players and a good enough offer will probably make them stay.

Park, however, states the offers given to these players have not been to their likings, and it equally appears the club isn’t going to raise them any further, meaning both of them will leave and seek new clubs either in the summer or sign a precontract in January.

We know we know, Rangers and Ibrox Noise have been here before with Connor Goldson, and Wilson claimed he was content with that situation repeating itself here – difference was though that he was approaching wrong side of 30 and wasn’t that highly rated in the PL. Kent and Morelos are young and in the peaks of their careers so the chances of no offers coming in that they like are quite low, especially in Bosman status in January.

Will they go? Unless they both do a Goldson, yes, they will, and Rangers will have to replace both men come next year.

But who knows, maybe they will both ‘change their minds’ too like Connor Goldson certainly did.

  1. This was really bad management from the board and Ross Wilson , they should have attended to these players last year contract wise, this situation should never have happened we also lost the likes young Billy Gilmour and the other excellent young lad ,Chelsea got gilmour got gilmour for buttons and sold him on for millions absolutely dreadful business, they way this board is running our club is drastic and I’m afraid this won’t be the last of it .

  2. GET RID OF PARK HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A BUSINESS MAN BUT HE ONLY LOOKS AFTER HIS OWN AS I SAID BEFORE FRESH FACES WHO KNOW ABOUT FOOTBALL AND THE WAY IT IS RUN THERE SEEMS TO BE MONEY LEAKING FROM THE CLUB THESE LAST FEW YEARS …..
