Shock new stats published reveal Rangers second-bottom defensively of the SPL

Shockingly, Rangers sit second bottom of the SPL in a new statistical analysis revealing that only Kilmarnock have a worse expected goals against ratio than Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

In Goals Conceded Performance Relative to Non-Penalty xG Against carried out by analysis company Dentsu in partnership with BetVictor, Rangers came almost bottom with -32.56% while St Mirren top the whole league with their stunning season at 15.67%. Celtic are fifth with 2.96%.

What this means is:

“BetVictor has analysed the xG (expected goals) and xGA (expected goals against) of every Scottish Premiership side so far this season, to evaluate the performance of teams by their attacking and defensive output relative to their expected rate.

xG and xGA are used to assign a value to goal-scoring chances based on past performance data. Comparing these values to actual goals scored and conceded can indicate whether a team is above or below average at taking and preventing goal-scoring opportunities, or perhaps experiencing particularly good or bad luck around the goal.

For this study non-penalty xG (including xG from set plays) was used to observe more closely the performance of teams in general play.”

And the following is what they found:

The second table is the key one. The first shows that goals scored in expected goals Rangers are the best, thanks mainly to Antonio Colak’s stellar season, but that the good work is undone by the second table, which shows only Killie worse than us for expected shipped goals this season.

Then again, that is kind of what happens when you let three defenders go, isn’t it?

  1. Agreed this is exactly what happens when you let 2 of your best natural CB’s go (Katic, Balogun) . Then sell your 2 strongest physically players (Bassey, Aribo). and replace them with lightweights (Tom Lawrence,Turkish guy cant even remember his name its getting that bad).

  2. I see the D.R done an article on getting in a CB out of some of the freebies that are a available, what do yous think ? We need to do something quick, even get someone in until the end of the season and extend there contract of they do well. The Dutch guy Bakker or the Senegalese guy Sane whos got a gd CV but again has had injuries.
What does Ibrox Noise think also ?

  3. Couldnt have put it any better david ,the defence has been stripped bare and left with davies and young king, souttar and sicknote hellander and a midfielder there ,it is criminal mismangement ,which is coming home to roost now .
I have zero faith in this current regime signing any players that are any good i am afraid ,and i cannot see anyone of any note wanting to join us in that dept with the shambles there .

  4. Gary cahill has been suggested david ,he may be just another injury prone /past it though.I cannot think of anybody else just now and our coach has already said he will not be signing another defender (instructions from DOF) ? so may be redundant ,much like he should be tbh .
