Rangers’ James Tavernier in line for shock England world cup call up

Rangers could have a shock England call up after Gareth Southgate was plunged into sudden chaos with the loss of all three of his right backs after injuries sidelined three world class players in a position England are usually so strong in.

After losing Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker, Rangers’ James Tavernier could well be a slim chance of an emergency call with the world cup only weeks away, in light of just Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier left, the Geordie captain himself experiencing injury concerns as well.

He is also on standby as fourth choice should none of the other three make it.

But it’s Rangers captain Tavernier we’re most interested in – true, his chances of playing in the world cup for his country are close to nil, but they’re still a lot higher than they were a few days ago when England were embarrassed by the riches they had at RB.

Now he’d be potentially looking at a shock call as backup to Trippier, with his being one of the most prominent England RBs in the UK these days amid the decline of Man Utd’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Chances?

Slim – Gareth Southgate doesn’t even look at Scotland, and would sooner play his pet dog than use any players based in the SPL, but desperate times call for desperate measures and there’s every possibility Tavernier could well get the call as backup to Trippier, should none of the injuries clear up in time.

There’s something we never thought we’d hear – James Tavernier whispered as a world cup call up for England.

Funny old game isn’t it?

  1. Tavernier will never be picked for England he just isn’t good enough look at his performance at Anfield. As you say Southgate doesn’t rate him or Scottish football. Even if he was playing in England he would still not be anywhere the England team.

  2. You can add his “performance” at ibrox last night ,southgate knows the score ,a lot of drivel up here .
The EPL is light miles ahead of our set up here ,no way he will pick any from here .
