One win for Rangers in midweek changes the whole UCL outlook.

With both Rangers and Ajax seeking that coveted UEL slot as third in the group, Rangers only find the mediocre Dutch side standing in their way from a salvaged UCL campaign.

True, we need to find five goals to do that with, and despite their utterly horrendous UCL campaign (it’s only been one win over Rangers better than Rangers’ own) Ajax are still a good enough team on their own merits. So it won’t be a cakewalk.

But a win over Ajax, and Rangers walk away from their UCL campaign with 3 points, one more than that lot across the city who have escaped a torrent of abuse purely because Rangers’ campaign was, to this point, even worse.

But that changes if Rangers can overcome Ajax. Ok, we probably won’t be able to achieve five goals, but crazier things have happened in world football – no one saw us nabbing four in Germany after all.

And easily forgotten, as we say, is how utterly shocking Ajax have been in this group – true, they’ve scored a few at least, most of which were against Rangers, but the reality is they’ve only conceded four less than Rangers have – and lost every other match, as we have.

Honestly?

If the Rangers who mauled Aberdeen show up midweek v Calvin Bassey’s side, we have not only a chance, but we really should win.

As Ibrox Noise’s Derek talks about, Gio’s negative fearful tactics have held his side back at this level – and letting the team off the leash v the Dons showed there’s still belief in there. That same belief on Tuesday and there’s no reason we can’t get a big win.

Ajax are about equal to PSV this season – they’ve lost plenty in all competitions and Rangers had the guts to square up to PSV and win. They didn’t have any guts in Amsterdam, and with Ajax coming here it is ALL to play for.

Five goals is a big ask, but what a story it would be if Rangers salvaged the wreckage of our UCL campaign so far and managed a 5-0 over Ajax to secure UEL after Christmas.

Ajax are one of the worst teams this season in the competition, Rangers finally showing up in this season’s incarnation would prove it.

  1. I would happily go out in Europe completely as we really need to concentrate on getting number 56, playing Thursday nights again then playing Sunday in the league, our players show they cannot handle that this season

  2. I would be over the moon on tuesday if we could win by 5 or more ,however unlikely that is .I believe it would be a massive injection of confidence and cash of course for the club and would push us on for rest of the season ,improve the much maligned coefficient which has been well and truly fucked by us all (very much predictable by the rest ) which rangers did so well to raise last season .
