The stage is ready for Rangers’ own King to be crowned
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - SEPTEMBER 07: Steven Bergwijn of Ajax gets past the tackle from Leon King of Rangers during the UEFA Champions League group A match between AFC Ajax and Rangers FC at Johan Cruyff Arena on September 07, 2022 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We’re seeing this surface more and more the past week, especially since his excellent cameo in Holland.

Yes, Rangers fans want Leon King to start against Napoli on Wednesday, and guess what?

Ibrox Noise supports this completely.

King has been highly-rated by management for at least two years, and while the boy is clearly still young, the utterly hopeless performances from Connor Goldson, pretty much since March 2021 (aside in Europe last season, we concede) have led to strong calls for his ‘resting’ to the bench and the arrival of King in his place.

Yes, we know there’s more chance of Liz Truss doing the fandango outside number 10 than Goldson being dropped, but there’s no denying Goldson is at the heart of most defensive foul ups that cost Rangers dear, and the longer GVB keeps him in defence, the more cock ups we’ll see.

We’re not claiming King is the ghost of Baresi, but he has looked extremely promising, and as a young man with no fear, why shouldn’t we give him a crack at it?

Only last night a young man of his age became world number one, a multimillionaire, and a grand slam winner in tennis – at just 19.

Don’t tell us his age is a barrier – and he has as much experience in the UCL now as most of the Rangers squad, and did damn better with it we hasten to add.

No, we have no qualms giving King the stage now.

We have a King of our nation, why not a King of our team too?

  1. I have no problem giving King a shot, maybe it will be the making of him, but in his position I still feel he has to mature a wee bit physically. But there’s only one way to find out.

  2. He cannot do any worse than goldson and sands ,play him and send out the message that non trying and dross will not be accepted .
I would have changed loads of them after old firm and ajax nonsense ,couldnt do any worse .
We shall see if he actually does it or just sticks with usual suspects .

  3. As far as l and many, many other supporters are concerned that is definitely 2 KINGS needed to shake things up at IBROX, DAVE back in charge as Chairman and big Leon on the pitch.

  4. I think he deserves to be given a chance, not just because of our defensive shortcomings but especially if we want to see more homegrown players in the future. I just wish there was a more experienced and accomplished CB around to partner him, someone he can learn from.
