Brian Laudrup endorses shock free agent defender signing for Rangers

There’s a £13M value centre back available as a free agent, one Steven Gerrard missed out recently on signing. He’s a Belgium international and he has been worth around £25M in the recent past.

His ex-clubs include Galatasaray, Man City and Lyon and he’s viewed as one of the most lucrative free agents out there.

Rangers are distinctly lacking at the rear, and this chap could be just the ticket.

There is only one problem, and you probably know what it is:

He used to play for Celtic…

Yes, Jason Denayer is entirely available and looking for his next challenge having been freed by Lyon, and his Celtic days are long ago – he’s gone on to become a top class defender and we could do worse in our defence.

Just 27-years old, Denayer remains very much at the peak of his powers, and quite honestly we’re not even sure we care that he was once on loan at Parkhead.

And neither does the great Brian Laudrup, who also believes we should make a move for him.

Denayer, whose wages wouldn’t cost the earth, is about as good as defenders get in terms of those we can realistically sign, and it would really, really wind up the fans in the east as well.

Of course, Denayer is probably too wise to take that risk, to play for the right side of Glasgow having been at the dark side, but nothing ventured nothing gained.

And if Laudrup endorses him, that’s good enough for us too.

  1. So he played for Celtic..!
MoJo played for Celtic as did Kenny Miller if memory serves me well.
Who cares who he has played for in the past. If he is good enough, get him in

  2. Who cares. He is a top class defender with a fantastic CV and we badly need a decent, never mind top class, centre back. Or we can stick with Souttar, Davies, Helander, Sands and Goldson. Absolute no brainer if he would come. If local guys like Mo Johnson, Kenny Miller and further back Alfie Conn can handle it then surely an international player with no “West of Scotland” baggage can handle it.
