Gio’s dilemma as Seville looms large for Rangers

There is a bit of a dilemma within a dilemma at Ibrox now.

Do we now completely ditch domestic stuff, with three SPL matches before the Europa final?

Hearts, Utd and Ross County are our bread and butter opponents, and barring an insane collapse from Celtic, the league is going to them.

We have the Scottish Cup final the Saturday after Seville, but what personnel does Gio use for the league?

We want to have as many available come the 18th as possible, but we know that won’t include Morelos, Hagi or Helander.

It could, however, see Aaron Ramsey and Kemar Roofe back. But do we save the likes of them for the final itself or try to get them match fit by the time our trip to Spain comes around?

Gio, who we will talk about more over the coming days, has a decision to make.

Or does he? Is the real dilemma the dilemma over whether there is actually any kind of dilemma?

In other words, is it quite simply moot, that of course we ditch the SPL and save everyone for Seville?

Surely it has to be?

We have 3 modest matches in the league, and it’s Ibrox Noise’s stance we dump our fringe players in those, and use them for getting Roofe and Ramsey fit with minutes here and there, and if we get great results, fair enough, great. If not, so be it.

The money all goes into the Europa now, getting as much of the squad available as possible.

Ryan Jack is a doubt, a question – he signalled to the bench he was done, and we saw ice on the calf and ankle area. We need him fit as well for that final.

So it’s our contention we can expect to see all the fringe boys coming out for the league now – the Zukowskis, the Leon Kings, the Baloguns, Davises and all the rest of the players who will keep us ticking over till the big event in Seville.

Because nothing matters more now than winning the Europa League.

  1. I think we should get Roofe and Ramsey match fit, and rotate our best players with youth and back ups. Until the 2 finals. Tht way everyone will get bits of game time to keep them fit.

  2. We definitely need to get Roofe fit and Ramsay would be a bonus. Other than that we need to keep everyone involved and on their toes. We have a big enough squad to allow us to give 4 or 5 players a break without interrupting the quality of the team. McLaughlin or McGregor, Balogun or Bassey, Arfield or Aribo, Kamara or Jack, Davis or Lundstram, Wright or Sakala, it matters not. It’s only 5 games. Everyone will get a break but we don’t want players winding down at this crucial stage. I remember losing cup finals to Hearts and Dundee Utd (and probably Hibs in 2016) because we’d won the league weeks before and had mentally wound down and couldn’t raise our game when it mattered.

  3. Totally agree. The fringe and young players will give 110% to impress Gio as there is a slim possibility that they could be involved in one or even both finals.
